Meet the Teachers

Anne L. Day

Anne has over 30 years experience as a holistically oriented nurse and health educator.  She has a Masters in Health and Wellness, is a nationally certified Healing Touch Practitioner and Instructor, Holistic Nurse, Journal Instructor and Massage Therapist.   Anne  founded Healing Touch Hawaii in 1996, and helped develop two holistic health centers in Colorado.  Anne is a past-president of Healing Beyond Borders.  She travels extensively, speaking and teaching about heart-centered healing and holism.   As Director of Healing Touch Hawaii, Anne’s mission is to bring healing and heart-centered living to as many people as possible on the islands.

Lori Protzman

Lori has been an instructor of Healing Touch since 2000. She brings to the role her passion for heart centered work, connecting to each student her energy and joy for teaching Healing Touch. Professionally, Lori is a registered nurse and administrator. After 26 years with Kaiser, she recently retired and began a new professional career as Asst. Executive Director for Bristol Hospice. In this work she is able to fulfill her greatest joy, supporting patients and families at end of life and bringing Healing Touch to the bedside of the dying.

Sarah E. Porter

Sarah has over 20 years of Healing Touch practice. Her background is mental health and women's health with a holistic perspective. She is the co-author of the book, “Women’s Health and Human Wholeness”, emphasizing the necessity of bringing the feminine principle back into the health care system. She has taught nursing at University of Hawaii, Oregon Health Sciences University, and St. Luke's College of Nursing in Tokyo. She conducts healing touch workshops in Hawaii and Japan. She lives and practices healing touch on Maui.

What is Healing Touch?

What is Healing Touch? Healing Touch, developed by Janet Mentgen RN, BSN, is a type of complementary healing using hands-on and energy-based techniques to balance and align the human energy field. Body, mind, emotion and spirit are touched through this therapeutic process, and each individual is empowered to participate fully in his or her healing journey.

Path to Certification

Healing Touch Level 1

Healing Touch is a multi-level program in energy-based therapy that moves from beginning to advanced practice.

Level 1: Foundations of Healing Touch

Level 2: Energetic Patterning and Clinical Applications

Level 3: Advanced Healer Preparation

Level 4: Case Management and Professional Practice

Mentorship program - 1 year minimum

Level 5: Self-Evaluation and Professional Development

After completion of all 5 courses, a person is eligible to apply for certification from Healing Beyond Borders, Inc.

​Foundations of Healing Touch

  • Discuss the facets of Healing Touch

  • Self-care needs of a Healing Touch Practitioner

  • Correlate techniques that support physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual healing

  • Describe personal perceptions of subtle energy / heart-centeredness

  • Evaluate the seven energy centers (chakras) and related energy layers

  • Discuss Healing Beyond Boarders Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and Scope of Practice

  • Prerequisite: None

  • Course runs 15 - 20 hours 

Healing Touch Level 2

Healing Touch Level 3

​Energetic Patterning and Clinical Applications

  • Demonstrate ability to remain grounded, present and heart-centered while working in the energy field

  • Conduct intake interview with a plan toward intervention

  • Recognize that previous experiences may have an impact on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health

  • Assess the status of the chakras and biofield

  • Document the process of repatterning and balancing

  • Apply techniques that support the health and comfort of the back

  • Discuss Healing Beyond Boarders Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and Scop of Practice

  • Prerequisite: Foundations of Healing Touch (Level 1)

  • Course runs 15 - 20 hours

Advanced Healer Preparation

  • Elevate the personal energy vibration to support upper level work

  • Apply clearing, balancing, and energizing techniques to the upper level layers

  • Deliver in-depth techniques to support spinal health

  • Practice and Advanced Healing session

  • Discuss Healing Beyond Boarders Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and Scope of Practice

  • Prerequisite: Energetic Patterning and Clinical Applications (Level 2)

  • Course runs 15 - 20 hours 

Healing Touch Level 4

Healing Touch Level 5

​Case Management and Professional Practice

  • Apply a meditation to clear and raise the personal energetic vibration

  • Create sequential Healing Touch sessions appropriate to a patient's presentation

  • Explore a variety of methods for practicing Healing Touch

  • Work with other health care providers in a professional manner

  • Describe the practicum process

  • Discuss Healing Beyond Boarders Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and Scope of Practice of an advanced Healing Touch Practitioner

  • Prerequisite: Advanced Healer Preparation (Level 3)

  • Course runs 20 - 30 hours 

​Self-Evaluation and Professional Development

  • Analyze personal strengths, challenges, and growth opportunities related to practitioner role

  • Evolve in the from Healing Touch Student to Practitioner

  • Review homework for course completion for increased depth of practice

  • Collaborate in the review of clinical case studies

  • Correlate research studies to case situations and choices of treatment

  • Present clinical cases to groups of professional care providers

  • Demonstrate ability to deliver a Healing Touch session as part of a group

  • Incorporate in their professional practice the Healing Beyond Boarders Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and Scope of Practice of a Healing Touch Practitioner

  • Prerequisite: Case Management and Professional Practice (Level 4)

  • Course runs 20 - 30 hours + 1 year mentorship (minimum) 

How does healing occur?

All healing is basically self-healing.

 

A physician can set two bone fragments in place, but the body itself finally heals the split; the physician simply directs and facilitates the process.

 

Healing Touch is a different and complementary mode of facilitating the healing process, but functions from an energy perspective rather than only a physical one.

 

The Healing Touch practitioner re-aligns the energy flow, re-activating the mind, body, spirit connection to eliminate blocks to self-healing.
